| Taipei, Taiwan -
Sep. 10, 2004 - Portwell, Inc., an Associate Member of the
Intel® Communications Alliance, announced a
new PICMG 1.0 SBC that supports Intel® Pentium®
III processor, DDR, 2D/3D graphocs, high-speed Gigabit Ethernet
and audio. |

ROBO-8612VGA
adopts VIA CLE266 chipset and supports Intel®
Pentium® III & Celeron processor with DDR 200/266
up to 2 GB system memory. The combination provides user with
lower TDP (Thermal Design Power) processor with smaller cooler
and better availability of memory. Under critical environment
and space limitation consideration, some users do not dare
to use bigger TDP processor or cannot use processors that
are bundled with big cooler. Therefore, Intel®
Pentium® III level processor is still the best
choice. SBC designed with older chipset supports only SDRAM.
Along with shifting time, SDRAM availability is getting worse
and worse. It is a wonderful idea to have common memory modules
in stock for both P3 and P4 based system.

Combining a fully integrated processing
feature and system memory, VIA CLE266 chipset with integrated
AGP 4X graphic is able to make its ideal for multimedia
and gaming applications. With Shared Memory Architecture
(SMA), it shares 16, 32 or 64 MB system memory for frame
buffer. Additional features include one Gigabit Ethernet,
integrated support six USB 2.0 ports and Audio in/out. As
we know, USB makes plugging in new peripherals easy with
plug and play, and supports multiple device connectivity.
USB is enjoying broad market acceptance offering friendly
interface and ease for installation. Optimized for Ethernet
connectivity delivering faster performance and manageability,
a high-speed Ethernet port tremendously accelerates the
speed of the data transaction. With the increased availability
of Ethernet and USB connectivity, those are becoming very
popular interface to delivery data.
With VIA chipset supply life cycle
guarantee, the chipset shall continue going till the end
of year 2007. And last buy notice will be issued at least
six months ahead of EOL (End-of-Life).
